One person killed, one person severely injured near 5335 S WOODLAWN AVE in Hyde Park

A driver was killed and a passenger was severely injured after a Tuesday afternoon head on collision in Hyde Park on April 30, 2024 at 1:00 PM.

The crash occurred near 5335 S WOODLAWN AVE, on a divided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry. The police report did not specify a cause for the crash.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

  • A 2018 Mazda MAZDA3 was heading north. The driver, a 63-year-old man, was killed; his airbag deployed from the front. A 75-year-old female passenger reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries; her airbag deployed from the front.
  • A 2020 Honda HR-V was heading south and was hit in the front-left-corner. The driver, a 76-year-old woman, was wearing a seat belt; she was uninjured.

There was one other vehicle involved but not being driven: A 2018 Mazda CX-9, hit in the top.
