One person killed near 2200 S THROOP ST in Lower West Side

A driver was killed after a Tuesday afternoon turning collision in Lower West Side on October 30, 2018 at 4:57 PM.

The crash occurred near 2200 S THROOP ST, on an undivided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. The weather was overcast and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to failing to yield right of way.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2015 Toyota RAV4 operated as a taxi was heading south while turning left. The police report described the driver, a 36-year-old woman, as failing to yield. She was wearing a seat belt, her airbag did not deploy, and her vision was reportedly obscured by moving vehicles; she was uninjured. Two other passengers were uninjured.
• A 2001 Suzuki was heading east and was hit in the front. The driver, a 41-year-old man, was not wearing a helmet and was totally ejected; he was killed.

Police were notified at 4:59 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 1,408th injurious crash reported in October 2018, and the 13,866th injurious crash reported in 2018. It was the 94th fatal crash for 2018.
