One person killed near 3300 E 100TH ST in South Deering

A driver was killed after a Wednesday early morning head on collision in South Deering on January 13, 2021 at 12:30 AM.

The crash occurred near 3300 E 100TH ST, on a divided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was wet. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to driving after drinking (no arrest was made).

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

  • A 2011 Hyundai Sonata was heading east. The police report described the driver, a 35-year-old man, as having been drinking. He was not wearing a seat belt and his airbag deployed; he was killed. One other passenger was uninjured.
  • A 2017 Ford Escape was heading west and was hit in the front. The driver, a 26-year-old man, was wearing a seat belt and his airbag deployed from the front; he was uninjured. One other passenger was uninjured.

Police were notified at 12:30 AM and made a report on scene. This was the 385th injurious crash reported in January 2021, and the 385th injurious crash reported in 2021. It was the 5th fatal crash for 2021.
