One person killed, and one other person injured near 3401 S CALIFORNIA AVE in Brighton Park

A driver was killed after a Monday early morning angle collision in Brighton Park on April 18, 2022 at 12:28 AM. One other person reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 3401 S CALIFORNIA AVE, at a t-intersection. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash; and, secondarily, to driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs (an arrest was made).

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2017 Cadillac XT5 was heading east. The police report described the driver, a 37-year-old woman, as going too fast for conditions and being under the influence of alcohol. Her airbag deployed; she reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.
• A 2003 Honda Accord was heading north and was hit in the side-left-front. The driver, a 36-year-old woman, was killed.

Police were notified at 12:28 AM. This was the 670th injurious crash reported in April 2022, and the 3,896th injurious crash reported in 2022. It was the 38th fatal crash for 2022.
