One person killed, and one other person injured near 600 W NORTH AVE in Old Town

A driver was killed after a Monday early morning rear end collision in Old Town on July 9, 2018 at 3:30 AM. One other person reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 600 W NORTH AVE, on an undivided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report did not specify a cause for the crash.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2005 Nissan Altima was heading east. The police report described the driver, a 62-year-old man, as following too closely. His airbag did not deploy; he was killed.
• A 2008 Acura was heading east while slowing or stopping in traffic and was hit in the rear. The driver, a 32-year-old man, was wearing a seat belt and his airbag did not deploy; he reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

Police were notified at 3:30 AM. This was the 418th injurious crash reported in July 2018, and the 8,360th injurious crash reported in 2018. It was the 51st fatal crash for 2018.
