One person killed, three people severely injured, including 2 pedestrians, and one other person injured near 36 W GRAND AVE in River North
A passenger was killed; and two pedestrians and a driver were severely injured after a Wednesday night angle collision in River North on June 20, 2018 at 10:54 PM.
The crash occurred near 36 W GRAND AVE, on a one-way road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to disregarding traffic signals; and, secondarily, to failing to yield right of way.
There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:
- A 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee was heading west while passing another vehicle. The police report described the driver, a 27-year-old man, as attempting to evade police. His airbag deployed from the front; he reportedly suffered unspecified injuries. Two other passengers were uninjured.
- A 2013 Toyota Camry operated as a taxi was heading north and was hit in the side-right. The driver, a 64-year-old man, reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries; his airbag deployed from the side. A 66-year-old female passenger was killed; her airbag deployed from the side.
A 45-year-old man (pedestrian) was off the roadway; he reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries.
A 48-year-old woman (pedestrian) reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries.
Police were notified at 10:54 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 1,002nd injurious crash reported in June 2018, and the 7,450th injurious crash reported in 2018. It was the 46th fatal crash for 2018.
