One person killed, one person severely injured near 6805 S SOUTH CHICAGO AVE in Woodlawn

A driver was killed and a passenger was severely injured after a Monday night hit-and-run angle collision in Woodlawn on July 4, 2022 at 10:09 PM.

The crash occurred near 6805 S SOUTH CHICAGO AVE, at a four-way intersection. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to disregarding traffic signals.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2018 Hyundai Sonata was heading north. The police report described the driver, an unknown age male, as disregarding traffic controls/signals. The police report did not have additional details about the driver. His passenger, a 15-year-old girl, reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries.
• A 2018 Dodge Charger was heading west and was hit in the side-left. The driver, a 49-year-old woman, was killed.

There were two other vehicles involved but not being driven:

• A 2013 Chevrolet Silverado, hit in the side-left.
• A 2009 Chevrolet Impala, hit in the front.

Police were notified at 10:10 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 207th injurious crash reported in July 2022, and the 7,728th injurious crash reported in 2022. It was the 64th fatal crash for 2022.
