One person killed near 10600 S AVENUE D in East Side

A driver was killed after a Thursday early morning angle collision in East Side on January 19, 2023 at 1:17 AM.

The crash occurred near 10600 S AVENUE D, at a four-way intersection. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a stop sign. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was rainy, and the roadway was wet. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to disregarding a stop sign; and, secondarily, to failing to yield right of way.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

  • A 2009 Pontiac G6 was heading north. The police report described the driver, a 37-year-old man, as failing to yield. He was wearing a seat belt; he was killed.
  • A 2017 International operated commercially was heading east and was hit in the side-right. The driver, a 36-year-old man, was wearing a seat belt and his airbag did not deploy; he was uninjured.

Police were notified at 1:17 AM and made a report on scene. This was the 609th injurious crash reported in January 2023, and the 609th injurious crash reported in 2023. It was the 9th fatal crash for 2023.
