One pedestrian severely injured near 1601 W DIVISION ST in East Village

A pedestrian was severely injured after a Friday night hit-and-run collision in East Village on August 4, 2023 at 10:25 PM.

The crash occurred near 1601 W DIVISION ST, at a four-way intersection. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to failing to yield right of way; and, secondarily, to reckless, careless, or aggressive driving.

A 17-year-old girl (pedestrian) was in a crosswalk. The police report described her as crossing with the signal; she reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries.
