One person killed, one person severely injured near 6528 S PULASKI RD in West Lawn

A driver was killed and a passenger was severely injured after a Friday night collision with a parked motor vehicle in West Lawn on November 17, 2023 at 10:48 PM.

The crash occurred near 6528 S PULASKI RD, on a divided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to improper overtaking or passing; and, secondarily, to failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

A 2008 GMC Envoy was heading south. The police report described the driver, a 26-year-old man, as going too fast for conditions. He was not wearing a seat belt and his airbag deployed; he was killed. A 30-year-old male passenger reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries; his airbag deployed.

There were four other vehicles involved but not being driven:

• A 2019 GMC Denali, hit in the rear.
• A 2017 Chrysler 300, hit in the rear.
• A 2024 Honda CR-V, hit in the rear.
• A 2018 Dodge RAM 1500 PU, hit in the rear.

Police were notified at 10:48 PM. This was the 865th injurious crash reported in November 2023, and the 14,857th injurious crash reported in 2023. It was the 126th fatal crash for 2023.
