Two people killed, three people severely injured, and one other person injured near 5010 S LAKE SHORE DR SB in Kenwood

A driver and a passenger were killed; and two other passengers and another driver were severely injured after a Saturday early morning head on collision in Kenwood on November 9, 2024 at 3:10 AM. One other person reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 5010 S LAKE SHORE DR SB, on a one-way road. The posted speed limit was 45 mph. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to traveling the wrong way or on the wrong side; and, secondarily, to failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

There were three motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2010 KIA Forte was heading north. The police report described the driver, a 20-year-old woman, as going the wrong way. Her airbag deployed; she was killed. A 21-year-old female passenger reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries; her airbag deployed.
• A 2013 Audi A7 was heading south and was hit in the front. The driver, a 32-year-old man, reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries; his airbag deployed. A 36-year-old male passenger was killed; his airbag deployed. A 37-year-old female passenger reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries; her airbag deployed.
• A 2019 Toyota Camry operated as a taxi was heading south and was hit in the side-left. The driver, a 46-year-old man, reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; his airbag deployed. Three other passengers were uninjured.

Police were notified at 3:10 AM. This was the 397th injurious crash reported in November 2024, and the 16,098th injurious crash reported in 2024. It was the 100th fatal crash for 2024.
