Two people killed, two people severely injured, and two other people injured near 3050 S LAKE SHORE DR SB in Douglas

A driver and a passenger were killed; and two other passengers were severely injured after a Monday evening sideswipe same direction collision in Douglas on October 30, 2023 at 8:46 PM. 2 other people reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 3050 S LAKE SHORE DR SB. The posted speed limit was 40 mph. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to improper lane usage.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2022 Chevrolet Bolt operated by a rideshare service was heading south while changing lanes. The police report described the driver, a 49-year-old man, as changing lanes improperly. His airbag deployed; he was uninjured. A 39-year-old female passenger reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; her airbag deployed. A 42-year-old male passenger reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; his airbag deployed.
• A 2016 Nissan Altima was heading south and was hit in the front. The driver, a 24-year-old man, was killed; his airbag deployed. An unknown age female passenger was killed; her airbag deployed. A 21-year-old female passenger reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries; her airbag deployed. A 21-year-old female passenger reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries; her airbag deployed.

Police were notified at 8:46 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 1,604th injurious crash reported in October 2023, and the 13,926th injurious crash reported in 2023. It was the 119th fatal crash for 2023.
