Two people killed, and two other people injured near 3500 S MICHIGAN AVE in Douglas
A driver and a passenger were killed after a Monday early morning angle collision in Douglas on October 14, 2024 at 1:00 AM. One other person reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.
The crash occurred near 3500 S MICHIGAN AVE, on an undivided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to disregarding traffic signals; and, secondarily, to failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash.
There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:
- A 2014 Infiniti Q50 was heading south. The police report described the driver, an 18-year-old man, as disregarding traffic controls/signals. His airbag deployed; he reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries. An 18-year-old female passenger reportedly suffered unspecified injuries; her airbag deployed.
- A 2023 Chevrolet was heading east and was hit in the rear-right-corner. The driver, a 45-year-old man, was killed; his airbag deployed. A 39-year-old female passenger was killed; her airbag deployed.
There was one other vehicle involved but not being driven: A 2019 Ford, hit in the rear-right-corner.
Police were notified at 1:06 AM and made a report on scene. This was the 771st injurious crash reported in October 2024, and the 14,750th injurious crash reported in 2024. It was the 91st fatal crash for 2024.
