One person killed, and two other people injured near 3500 S ASHLAND AVE in Mckinley Park

A passenger was killed after a Tuesday early morning turning collision in Mckinley Park on October 1, 2024 at 1:58 AM. 2 other people reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 3500 S ASHLAND AVE, on an undivided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to disregarding traffic signals.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2007 Lexus ES was heading south. The police report described the driver, a 23-year-old man, as disregarding traffic controls/signals. His airbag deployed; he reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries. An unknown age male passenger was killed; his airbag deployed.
• A 2024 KIA Soul was heading south while turning left and was hit in the front. The driver, a 44-year-old man, was wearing a seat belt and his airbag deployed from the front; he reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

Police were notified at 1:58 AM and made a report on scene. This was the 1st injurious crash reported in October 2024, and the 13,980th injurious crash reported in 2024. It was the 88th fatal crash for 2024.
