One cyclist killed near 200 W WACKER DR in The Loop

A cyclist was killed after a Tuesday morning collision in The Loop on November 5, 2024 at 5:46 AM.

The crash occurred near 200 W WACKER DR, on a divided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was rainy, and the roadway was wet. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to disregarding traffic signals.

A 2019 Toyota Camry operated as a taxi was heading east and was hit in the front. The driver, a 49-year-old man, was uninjured; his airbag did not deploy. One other passenger was uninjured.

A 55-year-old man (cyclist) was in a crosswalk, not wearing a helmet, and he was totally ejected. The police report described him as crossing against the signal and disregarding traffic controls/signals; he was killed.

Police were notified at 5:47 AM and made a report on scene. This was the 208th injurious crash reported in November 2024, and the 15,909th injurious crash reported in 2024. It was the 99th fatal crash for 2024.
