One person killed, two people severely injured near 6501 S CORNELL DR in Jackson Park

A passenger was killed and two other passengers were severely injured after a Saturday night hit-and-run rear end collision in Jackson Park on June 30, 2018 at 11:43 PM.

The crash occurred near 6501 S CORNELL DR. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2018 Jeep was heading north. The police report described the driver, a 35-year-old man, as having been drinking. His airbag deployed from the front; he was uninjured. One other passenger was uninjured.
• A 2016 Chevrolet Impala was heading north and was hit in the rear. The driver, a 37-year-old man, was uninjured; his airbag deployed from the front. A 36-year-old male passenger was killed; his airbag deployed from the side. A 37-year-old female passenger reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries; her airbag deployed from the side. A 34-year-old female passenger reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries; her airbag deployed from the side.

Police were notified at 11:43 PM. This was the 1,494th injurious crash reported in June 2018, and the 7,942nd injurious crash reported in 2018. It was the 48th fatal crash for 2018.
