One pedestrian killed, and one other person injured near 7232 S DAMEN AVE in Englewood

A pedestrian was killed after a Monday early morning collision in Englewood on January 2, 2023 at 1:41 AM. One other person reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 7232 S DAMEN AVE, on an undivided road. The posted speed limit was 35 mph. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to improper lane usage.

A 2011 Toyota Camry was heading north. The police report described the driver, a 23-year-old man, as failing to yield and being under the influence of alcohol. His airbag deployed from the front; he reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The police report described the pedestrian, a 21-year-old man, as near a parked vehicle; he was killed.

There were four other vehicles involved but not being driven:

• A 2016 Chevrolet Trax, hit in the rear-left-corner.
• A 2022 Hyundai Elantra, hit in the front.
• A 2015 Honda CR-V, hit in the front.
• A 2022 Chevrolet Equinox, hit in the front.

Police were notified at 1:43 AM and made a report on scene. This was the 50th injurious crash reported in January 2023, and the 50th injurious crash reported in 2023. It was the 1st fatal crash for 2023.
