One person killed, and one other person injured near 4920 N ASHLAND AVE in Uptown

A driver was killed after a Sunday early morning collision with a parked motor vehicle in Uptown on July 29, 2018 at 4:30 AM. One other person reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 4920 N ASHLAND AVE, on a road divided by a median barrier. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report did not specify a cause for the crash.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2003 Mazda Mazda3 was heading north. The driver, a 35-year-old man, was wearing a seat belt and his airbag deployed from the side; he was killed.
• A 2011 Toyota Prius operated as a taxi was heading south and was hit in the front. The driver, a 53-year-old man, was wearing a seat belt and his airbag deployed from the front; he reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

There were three other vehicles involved but not being driven:

• A 2016 Honda Civic, hit in the side-left.
• A 2016 Mazda Mazda6, hit in the side-left.
• A 2010 Honda Civic, hit in the front.

Police were notified at 4:30 AM. This was the 1,433rd injurious crash reported in July 2018, and the 9,375th injurious crash reported in 2018. It was the 64th fatal crash for 2018.
