One person killed, one person severely injured near 726 W 69TH ST in Englewood

A passenger was killed and a driver was severely injured after a Sunday early morning collision with a parked motor vehicle in Englewood on March 11, 2018 at 4:26 AM.

The crash occurred near 726 W 69TH ST, on an undivided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry but reportedly had a worn surface. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to improper lane usage; and, secondarily, to exceeding the posted speed limit.

A 2004 BMW M-5 was heading east while skidding or losing control. The police report described the driver, a 36-year-old man, as changing lanes improperly and being under the influence of alcohol. He was wearing a seat belt and his airbag deployed; he reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries. A 26-year-old female passenger was not wearing a seat belt, her airbag deployed, and was totally ejected; she was killed.

There was one other vehicle involved but not being driven: A 2004 Chevrolet Trail Blazer, hit in the front.

Police were notified at 4:26 AM and made a report on scene. This was the 429th injurious crash reported in March 2018, and the 2,774th injurious crash reported in 2018. It was the 16th fatal crash for 2018.
