One person killed near 4650 W ROOSEVELT RD in Austin

A driver was killed after a Sunday night sideswipe same direction collision in Austin on April 7, 2019 at 11:38 PM.

The crash occurred near 4650 W ROOSEVELT RD, on a divided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was rainy, and the roadway was wet. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to exceeding the posted speed limit; and, secondarily, to improper overtaking or passing.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee was heading west while passing another vehicle. The police report described the driver, a 19-year-old man, as going too fast for conditions. He was totally ejected; he was killed.
• A 2000 Toyota Corolla was heading west and was hit in the side-right. The driver, a 43-year-old man, was wearing a seat belt and his airbag did not deploy; he was uninjured.

Police were notified at 11:39 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 275th injurious crash reported in April 2019, and the 3,638th injurious crash reported in 2019. It was the 23rd fatal crash for 2019.
