One person killed near 2001 N LARAMIE AVE in Belmont Cragin

A driver was killed after a Monday morning turning collision in Belmont Cragin on July 18, 2022 at 5:19 AM.

The crash occurred near 2001 N LARAMIE AVE, at a four-way intersection. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to failing to yield right of way; and, secondarily, to an improper turn or failure to signal.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2006 Acura TLX was heading south while turning left. The police report described the driver, a 28-year-old man, as failing to yield. He was wearing a seat belt and his airbag did not deploy; he was uninjured.
• A 2005 Suzuki Colt was heading north and was hit in the side-left-front. The driver, a 65-year-old woman, was not wearing a helmet and her airbag did not deploy; she was killed.

Police were notified at 5:23 AM and made a report on scene. This was the 819th injurious crash reported in July 2022, and the 8,340th injurious crash reported in 2022. It was the 71st fatal crash for 2022.
