Two people killed, one person severely injured, and two other people injured near 4352 W LAKE ST in Garfield Park

A driver and a passenger were killed; and another passenger was severely injured after a Wednesday early morning collision with a fixed object in Garfield Park on August 8, 2018 at 3:41 AM. 2 other people reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 4352 W LAKE ST, on an undivided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to distraction from outside the vehicle.

A 1999 Jeep Cherokee was heading east. The driver, an unknown age male, was not wearing a seat belt, his airbag deployed, and was trapped; he was killed. A 22-year-old female passenger was killed; her airbag deployed. A 19-year-old male passenger reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries; his airbag deployed and he was trapped. A 21-year-old female passenger reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; her airbag deployed. A 25-year-old male passenger reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; his airbag deployed.

Police were notified at 3:41 AM and made a report on scene. This was the 369th injurious crash reported in August 2018, and the 9,863rd injurious crash reported in 2018. It was the 69th fatal crash for 2018.
