One person killed near 4959 W DIVERSEY AVE in Belmont Cragin

A driver was killed after a Thursday night hit-and-run rear end collision in Belmont Cragin on July 4, 2019 at 9:35 PM.

The crash occurred near 4959 W DIVERSEY AVE, on a divided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to disregarding traffic signals.

There were three motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A passenger vehicle of unknown make was heading east. The police report described the driver, an unknown age person, as following too closely. The police report did not have additional details about the driver.
• A 2000 Suzuki was heading east and was hit in the rear-left. The police report described the driver, a 36-year-old man, as disregarding traffic controls/signals. He was not wearing a helmet and he was totally ejected; he was killed.
• A 2016 Prevost Prevost Car, ("prevost Bus;" Sainte Claire, Quebec was heading west and was hit in the front. The driver, a 54-year-old man, was wearing a seat belt and his airbag did not deploy; he was uninjured.

Police were notified at 9:39 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 215th injurious crash reported in July 2019, and the 7,843rd injurious crash reported in 2019. It was the 48th fatal crash for 2019.
