One cyclist severely injured near 999 N MICHIGAN AVE in Magnificent Mile
A cyclist was severely injured after a Friday early morning collision in Magnificent Mile on August 16, 2019 at 2:20 AM.
The crash occurred near 999 N MICHIGAN AVE, on a divided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to disregarding traffic signals; and, secondarily, to failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash.
A 2013 GMC Terrain was heading north. The driver, a 58-year-old man, was wearing a seat belt and his airbag did not deploy; he was uninjured.
An unknown age male (cyclist) was not wearing a helmet and he was totally ejected. The police report described him as crossing against the signal and disregarding traffic controls/signals; he reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries.
