Two people killed, one person severely injured near 322 N HOMAN AVE in Garfield Park

A driver and a passenger were killed; and another driver was severely injured after a Wednesday evening rear end collision in Garfield Park on May 31, 2023 at 5:28 PM.

The crash occurred near 322 N HOMAN AVE, on an undivided road. The posted speed limit was 35 mph. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry. The police report did not specify a cause for the crash.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

  • A 2019 Chevrolet Equinox was heading south. The driver, a 39-year-old man, was killed; his airbag deployed and he was totally ejected. A 40-year-old male passenger was killed; his airbag deployed.
  • A 2020 Acura TLX was heading south and was hit in the rear-right-corner. The driver, a 47-year-old man, reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries.

Police were notified at 5:28 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 1,485th injurious crash reported in May 2023, and the 6,187th injurious crash reported in 2023. It was the 60th fatal crash for 2023.
