One person killed, and one other person injured near 4240 S KEDZIE AVE in Brighton Park

A driver was killed after a Tuesday afternoon head on collision in Brighton Park on January 9, 2018 at 4:55 PM. One other person reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 4240 S KEDZIE AVE, on an undivided road. The posted speed limit was 35 mph. It was dark but with streetlights and the roadway was wet. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to traveling the wrong way or on the wrong side.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

  • A 1998 Nissan Maxima was heading north. The police report described the driver, a 61-year-old man, as going the wrong way. His airbag deployed from the front; he was killed.
  • A 2000 Nissan Altima was heading south and was hit in the front. The driver, a 54-year-old man, was wearing a seat belt and his airbag deployed from the front; he reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

Police were notified at 4:55 PM. This was the 394th injurious crash reported in January 2018, and the 394th injurious crash reported in 2018. It was the 1st fatal crash for 2018.
