One pedestrian killed, and one pedestrian injured near 501 S LAKE SHORE DR NB in The Loop

A pedestrian was killed after a Tuesday evening hit-and-run collision in The Loop on June 25, 2019 at 8:46 PM. One other person reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 501 S LAKE SHORE DR NB, on a divided road. The posted speed limit was 40 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dusk, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to disregarding traffic signals; and, secondarily, to failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

An SUV of unknown make was heading north. The police report did not have details about the driver.

An unknown age male (pedestrian) was in a crosswalk. The police report described him as crossing at a controlled point that was not an intersection; he was killed.

An 8-year-old girl (pedestrian) was in a crosswalk. The police report described her as crossing with the signal; she reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

Police were notified at 8:48 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 1,245th injurious crash reported in June 2019, and the 7,356th injurious crash reported in 2019. It was the 44th fatal crash for 2019.
