One person killed near 4500 S RACINE AVE in New City
A driver was killed after a Monday afternoon sideswipe same direction collision in New City on June 8, 2020 at 2:39 PM.
The crash occurred near 4500 S RACINE AVE, at a t-intersection. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to improper overtaking or passing; and, secondarily, to failing to yield right of way.
There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:
- A 2012 Honda Motorcycle was heading south while passing another vehicle. The police report described the driver, a 45-year-old man, as attempting to pass improperly. He was not wearing a helmet; he was killed.
- A 2019 GMC Handi-VAN was heading south while slowing or stopping in traffic and was hit in the side-left. The driver, a 46-year-old man, was uninjured; his airbag did not deploy. One other passenger was uninjured.
Police were notified at 2:42 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 293rd injurious crash reported in June 2020, and the 5,335th injurious crash reported in 2020. It was the 44th fatal crash for 2020.
