One person killed, and one other person injured near 4508 W 63RD ST in West Lawn

A driver was killed after a Wednesday afternoon hit-and-run angle collision in West Lawn on March 11, 2020 at 1:10 PM. One other person reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 4508 W 63RD ST, on a divided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to disregarding traffic signals; and, secondarily, to reckless, careless, or aggressive driving.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2012 Ford Construction Equipment was heading west. The police report described the driver, a 23-year-old man, as disregarding traffic controls/signals. His airbag deployed; he was uninjured. A 22-year-old male passenger reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; his airbag deployed. Two other passengers were uninjured.
• A 2007 Chevrolet Malibu was heading north and was hit in the side-right. The driver, a 59-year-old man, was killed; his airbag deployed.

Police were notified at 1:10 PM. This was the 462nd injurious crash reported in March 2020, and the 2,844th injurious crash reported in 2020. It was the 18th fatal crash for 2020.
