One person killed near 4300 N LAKE SHORE DR SB in Uptown

A passenger was killed after a Saturday morning hit-and-run rear end collision in Uptown on March 25, 2023 at 7:13 AM.

The crash occurred near 4300 N LAKE SHORE DR SB, on a road divided by a median barrier. The posted speed limit was 40 mph. The weather was rainy and the roadway was wet. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash; and, secondarily, to failing to yield right of way.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2015 Nissan Rogue operated as a taxi was heading south while changing lanes. The police report described the driver, a 36-year-old man, as failing to yield. He was wearing a seat belt and his airbag deployed; he was uninjured. A 32-year-old male passenger was not wearing a seat belt and his airbag deployed; he was killed.
• A 2023 KIA Forte was heading south and was hit in the front-right-corner. The police report described the driver, an unknown age female, as going too fast for conditions. The police report did not have additional details about the driver.

Police were notified at 7:13 AM. This was the 928th injurious crash reported in March 2023, and the 3,086th injurious crash reported in 2023. It was the 38th fatal crash for 2023.
