Two people killed, two people severely injured near 12001 S DOTY AVE E in South Deering

A driver and a passenger were killed; and another driver and another passenger were severely injured after a Saturday night head on collision in South Deering on July 28, 2018 at 11:30 PM.

The crash occurred near 12001 S DOTY AVE E, on an undivided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. It was dark, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to traveling the wrong way or on the wrong side; and, secondarily, to failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

  • A 2002 Subaru Impreza was heading north. The police report described the driver, a 17-year-old boy, as going the wrong way. He was not wearing a seat belt and his airbag deployed; he was killed. A 16-year-old male passenger was not wearing a seat belt and his airbag deployed; he was killed.
  • A 2007 Chrysler 300 was heading south and was hit in the front. The police report described the driver, a 20-year-old man, as going the wrong way. He was not wearing a seat belt and his airbag deployed; he reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries. A 19-year-old female passenger was not wearing a seat belt and her airbag deployed; she reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries.

Police were notified at 12:05 AM on July 29 and made a report on scene. This was the 1,422nd injurious crash reported in July 2018, and the 9,364th injurious crash reported in 2018. It was the 62nd fatal crash for 2018.
