One pedestrian killed, one pedestrian severely injured near 2901 W ADDISON ST in Avondale
A pedestrian was killed and another pedestrian was severely injured after a Tuesday afternoon collision with a parked motor vehicle in Avondale on April 3, 2018 at 12:31 PM.
The crash occurred near 2901 W ADDISON ST, at a parking lot. The posted speed limit was 15 mph. The weather was overcast and the roadway was wet. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to reckless, careless, or aggressive driving; and, secondarily, to vehicle equipment or its condition.
A 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe was heading north. The driver, an 89-year-old man, was wearing a seat belt and his airbag did not deploy; he was uninjured. One other passenger was uninjured.
A 76-year-old woman (pedestrian) was killed.
A 97-year-old woman (pedestrian) reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries.
There were four other vehicles involved but not being driven:
- A 2012 Audi A6, hit in the side-right.
- A 2011 Chevrolet Aveo, hit in the side-left.
- A 2014 Chevrolet Cruze, hit in the rear.
- A 2013 Honda CR-V, hit in the rear-left.
Police were notified at 12:32 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 94th injurious crash reported in April 2018, and the 3,635th injurious crash reported in 2018. It was the 25th fatal crash for 2018.
