One pedestrian killed near 5454 S KEDZIE AVE in Gage Park

A pedestrian was killed after a Saturday early morning hit-and-run collision in Gage Park on August 9, 2025 at 3:23 AM.

The crash occurred near 5454 S KEDZIE AVE, at a four-way intersection. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry but reportedly had a worn surface. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to disregarding traffic signals; and, secondarily, to failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

A 2015 Toyota 4RUNNER was heading north. The police report described the driver, an unknown age person, as disregarding traffic controls/signals. The police report did not have additional details about the driver.

A 22-year-old man (pedestrian) was not wearing a helmet. The police report described him as crossing with the signal; he was killed.

Police were notified at 3:23 AM. This was the 476th injurious crash reported in August 2025, and the 10,649th injurious crash reported in 2025. It was the 52nd fatal crash for 2025.
