One pedestrian killed, and one other person injured near 3202 W 51ST ST in Gage Park

A pedestrian was killed after a Saturday early morning collision in Gage Park on October 22, 2022 at 4:16 AM. One other person reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 3202 W 51ST ST, on an undivided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs (an arrest was made); and, secondarily, to failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

A 2017 Lincoln MKZ was heading west. The police report described the driver, a 23-year-old man, as being under the influence of alcohol. His airbag deployed; he reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

A 54-year-old man (pedestrian) was in a crosswalk. The police report described him as crossing against the signal; he was killed.

There were two other vehicles involved but not being driven:

  • A 2006 Mazda, hit in the side-left.
  • A 2010 Mazda MAZDA3, hit in the front.

Police were notified at 4:16 AM. This was the 1,026th injurious crash reported in October 2022, and the 12,977th injurious crash reported in 2022. It was the 107th fatal crash for 2022.
