One person killed, two people severely injured near 2700 W 82ND ST in Ashburn

A passenger was killed; and a driver and another passenger were severely injured after a Wednesday night collision with a fixed object in Ashburn on January 22, 2020 at 9:34 PM.

The crash occurred near 2700 W 82ND ST, on an undivided road. The posted speed limit was 20 mph. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was icy. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs (an arrest was made); and, secondarily, to inadequate driving skill, knowledge, or experience.

A 2020 Dodge Durango was heading east. The police report described the driver, a 22-year-old man, as going too fast for conditions and being under the influence of alcohol. He was not wearing a seat belt and his airbag deployed; he reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries. An unknown age male passenger was not wearing a seat belt and his airbag deployed; he was killed. A 15-year-old male passenger was not wearing a seat belt and his airbag deployed; he reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries.

Police were notified at 9:34 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 846th injurious crash reported in January 2020, and the 846th injurious crash reported in 2020. It was the 4th fatal crash for 2020.
