One person killed near 4900 W 55TH ST in Garfield Ridge

A driver was killed after a Saturday afternoon turning collision in Garfield Ridge on September 3, 2022 at 2:10 PM.

The crash occurred near 4900 W 55TH ST, on an undivided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to disregarding traffic signals.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2019 KIA Forte was heading east while turning left. The police report described the driver, a 52-year-old man, as failing to yield. He was wearing a seat belt and his airbag did not deploy; he was uninjured. One other passenger was uninjured.
• A 2009 Harley-Davidson was heading west and was hit in the front. The driver, a 51-year-old man, was not wearing a helmet and was totally ejected; he was killed.

Police were notified at 2:10 PM. This was the 131st injurious crash reported in September 2022, and the 10,578th injurious crash reported in 2022. It was the 88th fatal crash for 2022.
