One person killed near 3832 N CICERO AVE in Portage Park
A driver was killed after a Thursday morning angle collision in Portage Park on August 8, 2019 at 9:14 AM.
The crash occurred near 3832 N CICERO AVE, at a four-way intersection. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash; and, secondarily, to improper overtaking or passing.
There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:
- A 2001 Yamaha was heading south while avoiding vehicles or objects. The police report described the driver, a 47-year-old man, as changing lanes improperly. He was wearing a DOT-compliant motorcycle helmet and he was totally ejected; he was killed.
- A 2014 Chrysler Town & Country was heading west and was hit in the side-right. The driver, a 68-year-old woman, was wearing a seat belt and her airbag deployed from the side; she was uninjured. One other passenger was uninjured.
Police were notified at 9:14 AM. This was the 402nd injurious crash reported in August 2019, and the 9,594th injurious crash reported in 2019. It was the 59th fatal crash for 2019.
