One pedestrian killed, one person severely injured near 5359 W IRVING PARK RD in Portage Park

A pedestrian was killed and a driver was severely injured after a Thursday night collision in Portage Park on May 19, 2022 at 10:52 PM.

The crash occurred near 5359 W IRVING PARK RD, at a four-way intersection. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs (an arrest was made); and, secondarily, to reckless, careless, or aggressive driving.

A 2007 Honda Motorcycle was heading west. The police report described the driver, a 34-year-old man, as failing to yield and being under the influence of alcohol and drugs. He was not wearing a helmet and he was totally ejected; he reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries.

A 46-year-old man (pedestrian) was in a crosswalk; he was killed.

There was one other vehicle involved but not being driven: A 2002 Acura TLX, hit in the rear.

Police were notified at 10:52 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 943rd injurious crash reported in May 2022, and the 5,409th injurious crash reported in 2022. It was the 48th fatal crash for 2022.
