One person killed near 5501 S PULASKI RD in West Elsdon

A driver was killed after a Sunday evening turning collision in West Elsdon on April 14, 2024 at 7:13 PM.

The crash occurred near 5501 S PULASKI RD, on an undivided road. The posted speed limit was 35 mph. There was a traffic light. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to failing to yield right of way; and, secondarily, to disregarding other traffic signs.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe was heading south while turning left. The police report described the driver, a 47-year-old woman, as attempting an improper turn. She was wearing a seat belt and her airbag did not deploy; she was uninjured. One other passenger was uninjured.
• A 1997 Harley-Davidson was heading south and was hit in the front-left-corner. The police report described the driver, a 46-year-old man, as going too fast for conditions. He was not wearing a helmet and he was totally ejected; he was killed.

Police were notified at 7:18 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 695th injurious crash reported in April 2024, and the 4,453rd injurious crash reported in 2024. It was the 27th fatal crash for 2024.
