A driver was killed and another driver was severely injured after a Saturday afternoon angle collision in Garfield Park on September 2, 2023 at 4:23 PM.
The crash occurred near 3859 W MADISON ST, at a t-intersection. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to disregarding traffic signals; and, secondarily, to reckless, careless, or aggressive driving.
There were three motor vehicles involved in the crash:
- A 2005 Infiniti G35 was heading north. The police report described the driver, a 30-year-old man, as disregarding traffic controls/signals. His airbag deployed; he was killed.
- A 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee was heading east and was hit in the rear-right-corner. The driver, a 38-year-old woman, was uninjured.
- A 2020 Ford Ecosport was heading east while slowing or stopping in traffic and was hit in the side-left. The driver, a 38-year-old woman, reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries.
Police were notified at 4:24 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 106th injurious crash reported in September 2023, and the 10,904th injurious crash reported in 2023. It was the 93rd fatal crash for 2023.
