One person killed, one person severely injured near 4537 W ARMITAGE AVE in Hermosa

A passenger was killed and another passenger was severely injured after a Tuesday night hit-and-run rear end collision in Hermosa on August 3, 2021 at 11:34 PM.

The crash occurred near 4537 W ARMITAGE AVE, on a divided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to following too closely.

There were three motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A van of unknown make was heading east. The police report described the driver, an unknown age male, as attempting to pass improperly. The police report did not have additional details about the driver, or his passenger.

• A 2018 Dodge Charger was heading east and was hit in the side-right. The driver, a 44-year-old man, was uninjured; his airbag deployed. A 16-year-old female passenger was killed; her airbag deployed. A 49-year-old female passenger reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries; her airbag deployed.

There was one other vehicle involved but not being driven: A 2022 Peterbilt, hit in the rear-left-corner.

Police were notified at 11:34 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 176th injurious crash reported in August 2021, and the 9,250th injurious crash reported in 2021. It was the 76th fatal crash for 2021.
