One person killed, and one other person injured near 4700 S DR MARTIN LUTHER KING JR DR in Grand Boulevard

A driver was killed after a Monday early morning angle collision in Grand Boulevard on August 21, 2023 at 1:52 AM. One other person reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 4700 S DR MARTIN LUTHER KING JR DR, at a four-way intersection. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to disregarding traffic signals; and, secondarily, to failing to yield right of way.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

  • A vehicle of unknown make was heading south. The police report described the driver, a 30-year-old man, as disregarding traffic controls/signals. He was totally ejected; he was killed.
  • A 2020 Mazda CX-3 was heading east and was hit in the side-left-rear. The driver, a 44-year-old woman, reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; her airbag deployed from the side.

Police were notified at 1:52 AM. This was the 1,002nd injurious crash reported in August 2023, and the 10,236th injurious crash reported in 2023. It was the 86th fatal crash for 2023.
