One person killed near 751 N KEDZIE AVE in Humboldt Park
A driver was killed after a Tuesday night turning collision in Humboldt Park on July 14, 2020 at 10:40 PM.
The crash occurred near 751 N KEDZIE AVE, at a center turn lane. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to failing to yield right of way; and, secondarily, to inadequate driving skill, knowledge, or experience.
There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:
- A 1997 Pontiac Transport was heading west while turning left. The police report described the driver, a 27-year-old man, as attempting an improper turn. He was not wearing a seat belt and his airbag did not deploy; he was uninjured. Two other passengers were uninjured.
- A motorcycle of unknown make was heading north and was hit in the front. The driver, a 46-year-old man, was not wearing a helmet and was totally ejected; he was killed.
Police were notified at 10:42 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 707th injurious crash reported in July 2020, and the 7,029th injurious crash reported in 2020. It was the 63rd fatal crash for 2020.
