Two people killed near 2755 E 130TH ST in Hegewisch

A driver and a passenger were killed after a Friday morning rear end collision in Hegewisch on July 10, 2026 at 9:15 AM.

The crash occurred near 2755 E 130TH ST, on a road divided by a median barrier. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to following too closely; and, secondarily, to failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan was heading east. The police report described the driver, a 33-year-old man, as following too closely. His airbag deployed and he was totally ejected; he was killed. A 33-year-old male passenger was killed; his airbag deployed and he was trapped.
• A 2021 Freightliner was heading east and was hit in the rear-right-corner. The driver, a 52-year-old woman, was uninjured.

Police were notified at 9:15 AM. This was the 531st injurious crash reported in July 2026, and the 9,389th injurious crash reported in 2026. It was the 47th fatal crash for 2026.
