One person killed, two people severely injured, and five other people injured near 1601 W 59TH ST in Englewood

A passenger was killed and two other passengers were severely injured after a Friday night angle collision in Englewood on May 24, 2024 at 9:28 PM. 5 other people reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 1601 W 59TH ST, at a center turn lane. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was rainy, and the roadway was wet. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to disregarding traffic signals; and, secondarily, to failing to yield right of way.

There were four motor vehicles involved in the crash:

  • A 2016 Honda HR-V was heading east. The police report described the driver, an unknown age male, as disregarding traffic controls/signals. The police report did not have additional details about the driver. An unknown age male passenger was killed; his airbag deployed. An unknown age female passenger reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries; her airbag deployed. A 15-year-old female passenger reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries; her airbag deployed. A 16-year-old female passenger reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; her airbag deployed.
  • A 2015 Jeep Renegade was heading south and was hit in the front-right-corner. The driver, a 24-year-old woman, was wearing a seat belt and her airbag deployed; she reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries. Two other passengers were uninjured.
  • A 2013 Ford Edge was heading north and was hit in the front-left-corner. The driver, a 32-year-old man, was wearing a seat belt and his airbag deployed; he reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries. Three other passengers were uninjured.
  • A 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander was heading north and was hit in the front-left-corner. The driver, a 42-year-old woman, was wearing a seat belt and her airbag deployed from the front; she reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries. A 41-year-old male passenger was wearing a seat belt and his airbag deployed from the front; he reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

Police were notified at 9:30 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 1,448th injurious crash reported in May 2024, and the 6,667th injurious crash reported in 2024. It was the 41st fatal crash for 2024.
