Two people killed, and one pedestrian injured near 3159 W ROOSEVELT RD in North Lawndale
A driver and a passenger were killed after a Wednesday morning angle collision in North Lawndale on March 27, 2019 at 5:53 AM. One other person reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.
The crash occurred near 3159 W ROOSEVELT RD, on an undivided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a stop sign. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to disregarding traffic signals; and, secondarily, to exceeding the posted speed limit.
There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:
- A 2018 Chevrolet was heading north. The police report described the driver, a 16-year-old boy, as disregarding traffic controls/signals. His airbag deployed; he was killed. An unknown age male passenger was killed; his airbag deployed.
- A 2019 Freightliner operated commercially was heading east and was hit in the side-right. The driver, a 44-year-old man, was wearing a seat belt and his airbag did not deploy; he was uninjured.
A 60-year-old woman (pedestrian) was off the roadway and wearing reflective material; she reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.
Police were notified at 5:53 AM. This was the 1,055th injurious crash reported in March 2019, and the 3,176th injurious crash reported in 2019. It was the 21st fatal crash for 2019.
