One cyclist severely injured near 1163 W 18TH ST in Lower West Side

A cyclist was severely injured after a Wednesday evening collision in Lower West Side on September 5, 2018 at 6:30 PM. Police identified this as a dooring incident.

The crash occurred near 1163 W 18TH ST, on an undivided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry. The police report did not specify a cause for the crash.

A 25-year-old man (cyclist) was on a bikeway, wearing a helmet, wearing contrasting clothing, and he was totally ejected. The police report described him as traveling with traffic; he reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries.
