One person killed near 4152 W NORTH AVE in Humboldt Park

A passenger was killed after a Tuesday afternoon hit-and-run rear end collision in Humboldt Park on March 12, 2024 at 2:30 PM.

The crash occurred near 4152 W NORTH AVE, at a t-intersection. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to failing to yield right of way; and, secondarily, to following too closely.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2016 Ford VAN was heading west. The police report described the driver, an unknown age male, as disregarding traffic controls/signals. The police report did not have additional details about the driver.
• A 2019 Ford Explorer was heading west and was hit in the rear. The driver, a 47-year-old man, was wearing a seat belt and his airbag did not deploy; he was uninjured. An unknown age male passenger was in a child restraint and his airbag did not deploy; he was killed.

Police were notified at 2:50 PM and made a desk report. This was the 533rd injurious crash reported in March 2024, and the 2,913th injurious crash reported in 2024. It was the 15th fatal crash for 2024.
