One person killed near 299 S LARAMIE AVE in Austin

A driver was killed after a Friday night angle collision in Austin on September 11, 2020 at 10:35 PM.

The crash occurred near 299 S LARAMIE AVE, on a divided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to disregarding traffic signals; and, secondarily, to failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

  • A 2014 Jeep Compass was heading north. The police report described the driver, a 26-year-old man, as disregarding traffic controls/signals. He was wearing a seat belt; he was uninjured. One other passenger was uninjured.
  • A 2007 Toyota Camry was heading west and was hit in the side-left. The driver, an unknown age male, was not wearing a seat belt and was trapped; he was killed.

Police were notified at 10:35 PM. This was the 510th injurious crash reported in September 2020, and the 9,910th injurious crash reported in 2020. It was the 95th fatal crash for 2020.
