One person killed, and one other person injured near 3159 W DEVON AVE in West Ridge

A driver was killed after a Friday early morning angle collision in West Ridge on April 13, 2018 at 1:11 AM. One other person reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 3159 W DEVON AVE, on an undivided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to disregarding traffic signals; and, secondarily, to failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2012 GMC Savannah was heading south. The police report described the driver, a 32-year-old man, as disregarding traffic controls/signals and being under the influence of alcohol. His airbag deployed; he reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.
• A 2011 Toyota Camry was heading east and was hit in the side-left. The driver, a 61-year-old man, was killed; his airbag deployed.

There were five other vehicles involved but not being driven:

• A 2017 Toyota Camry, hit in the front.
• A 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe, hit in the front.
• A 2005 Toyota Camry, hit in the front.
• A 2009 Toyota Camry, hit in the front.
• A 2006 Honda Civic, hit in the side-left.

Police were notified at 1:11 AM. This was the 491st injurious crash reported in April 2018, and the 4,032nd injurious crash reported in 2018. It was the 30th fatal crash for 2018.
